DAVAO CITY, Philippines — Member local government units (LGUs) of the Iranun Development Council (IDC) convened on January 27–28, 2025, for an inception workshop aimed at revitalizing the alliance originally formed in 2002, as part of the project “Strengthening the Governance and Economic Models of Local Government Units through Inter-LGU Alliances in BARMM.”
The workshop brought together municipal mayors, municipal planning and development coordinators, municipal engineers, and municipal agriculturists, along with a representative from a partner civil society organization. Participants collaborated to craft and refine the IDC’s vision, mission, core values, and work plan, which are intended to guide the alliance’s renewed direction and priorities.
As part of the institutional strengthening efforts, an interim IDC Secretariat was also established to facilitate coordination among member-LGUs and support the implementation of agreed work plan activities across and within local governments. The initiative is being implemented by the Institute for Autonomy and Governance (IAG), with financial support from the Spanish Agency for International Development Cooperation (AECID). The project is set to run for three years and is expected to culminate in 2027.
